Typical school responses
• Principals
- Fabulous, awesome, incredible experience.
- Our students live in a low socio-economic area and this is an experience they will remember for the rest of their lives.

- The LAJS Jazz in Schools program kicked off our Black History Month research and celebration. As a result, many of our students have chosen musicians for their research projects.
• Teachers
- Thanks to the exceptional performance, the interest and appreciation of jazz has been so stirred that we are planning a jazz club to meet during lunch hour once a week.

SELECTING SCHOOLS
Selection of schools begins shortly after the end of February and the completion of that year’s concerts. Schools are selected based on having received no prior or recent concert. Schools requesting concerts are placed on file and considered based on the above criteria. Requests can be made by contacting the Jazz Society office at 818.994- JAZZ or info@lajazz.org
FUNDING JAZZ IN SCHOOLS
Funding for Jazz in Schools is received through grants from foundations, corporations, and donations made to the Los Angeles Jazz Society’s David L. Abell Jazz Education Fund by benefactors and members.
The primary donors are the Herb Alpert Foundation, the Los Angeles City Department of Cultural Affairs, National Endowment for the Arts and the Music Performance Fund.
