The Los Angeles Jazz Society was pleased to be joining the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) to once again present its LA Jazz Treasure Award to a musician in Los Angeles whose work has been of great pride to the community and deserves recognition. This year’s recipient was master flutist and saxophonist, Hubert Laws, who received the Society’s Life Achievement Award in 2013.
Hubert Laws has a career spanning over 40 years in jazz, classical and other music genres. After Eric Dolphy and alongside Herbie Mann, Laws is probably the most recognized and respected jazz flutist. He is one of the few classical artists who has also mastered jazz, pop and rhythm and blues genres, moving, effortlessly from one repertory to another.
The concert and award presentation took place at LACMA on Friday, September 2nd. Admission was free.
