Lauren Baba and theBABAOrchestra to perform at Angel City Jazz Festival – Saturday, October 6th – 8:00pm-10:30pm
The Los Angeles Jazz Society is proud to present an annual commission to a talented young composer to create an original work. This new work is performed in conjunction with the Angel City Jazz Festival at their annual fall jazzfest.
This year we were excited to commission Lauren Baba and we are excited to hear the world premiere of Marigold. The performance will take place as part of a double bill at the Ford Theatre, with Xenia Rubinos.
New Note is a project designed to support and promote the talents of young emerging jazz composers by providing commissions for new works which will be premiered at local jazz venues. The decision on candidates is based on a record of achievement and recognition as a composer and musician. Each candidate must be known as a “rising star” among young audiences and someone who has an appreciation for the history of jazz as well as an eye to the future, providing a unique and innovative approach to music. The first commission was awarded to Richard Sears in 2013 followed by Cathlene Pineda, Joshua Johnson, Jose Gurria-Cardenas and Jonah Levine.
