SUMMARY:Young Musicians Showcase Presents - The Ishaan Natarajan Septet
DESCRIPTION:Ishaan Natarajan is a jazz drummer\, composer\, and music technologist based in Los Angeles\, California. He is currently a student at the nation’s top-ranked arts high school\, LACHSA\, where he performs in the school’s premier Blue Note Combo. Ishaan has participated in the Stanford Jazz Institute and Colburn Jazz Camp and completed songwriting and film\, television\, and game scoring programs at Berklee College of Music. He has studied with renowned artists including Roy McCurdy\, Jerry Kalaf\, Alex Hahn\, Michael Ragonese\, and Mathew Stubbs. \nBefore jazz\, he studied Indian classical percussion\, including tabla and mridangam. He has been invited to perform at venues such as the Hollywood Bowl\, Catalina Jazz Club\, and LACMA\, and was selected to play at LAUSD headquarters. Ishaan has been recognized by the Herbie Hancock Institute as one of the best arts high school jazz musicians in the United States. He is an active member of the Modern Artist Jazz Group (@modernartistjazz)\, founded by Alex Hahn and Michael Ragonese\, and performs in a Colburn-based jazz combo outside of school. Ishaan is currently preparing to release his debut album with the Modern Artist Jazz Group. He has scored media for business companies as well as film and media projects for students at Chapman University and the University of Southern California. \nIshaan founded Soundkey\, a music education AI platform built to support musicians through intelligent practice tools and theory-based learning resources. DESCRIPTION:Miri Izenberg is a trumpet player and vocalist based in Southern California. She is a rising senior at the Orange County School of the Arts\, where she is a member of the jazz conservatory. She performs as a part of the Ambassador Jazz Orchestra and the Colburn Jazz Workshop\, and leads her own quintet\, which was featured at the 2025 Newport Beach Jazz Festival.   A performer in both jazz and classical groups\, Miri has earned national recognition including a DownBeat Student Music Award for vocal solo performance and multiple honors from the Essentially Ellington Festival at Jazz at Lincoln Center.  She has also played at premier venues including Catalina Jazz Club\, Campus Jax\, and Swing 46. \nStudying trumpet with Willie Murillo and John Reynolds and voice with Lia Booth\, Miri draws inspiration from legendary vocalists like Carmen McRae\, Ella Fitzgerald\, Jazzmeia Horn\, and Cécile McLorin Salvant. DESCRIPTION:Luke Henry Davis is a sophomore jazz drummer\, composer\, and arranger at California State University Northridge pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree in Jazz Studies. Luke began studying jazz drumming at age six with Tim Metz\, as a teenager with Rick Lotter\, and continued in college with Tina Raymond and Jason Harnell. He has performed at Carnegie Hall and the Golden 1 Center\, the California Jazz Championships\, international performances including Stockholm\, Sweden and San Sebastián\, Spain as well as on the BBC Global News Podcast. DESCRIPTION:Ethan Lavenstein is a musician\, teacher\, and composer based in the LA/OC area. At the age of 10\, he started playing the trumpet in his school’s band class. A versatile jazz horn player and keyboardist\, Ethan Lavenstein is known for his dynamic performances and improvisational skills. At only 23 years old\, Ethan has worked with Wesley Franklin\, Allie Page\, MKY\, Greg Shilling\, Jonny Kosmo\, and more. He has played at the Greek Theater\, Echoplex\, Anaheim Convention Center\, Secret Tides Punta Cana and many more venues in the LA area. \nWhile heavily inspired by Jazz greats Lee Morgan\, Herbie Hancock\, and Freddie Hubbard\, Ethan takes from a plethora of other musicians and genres. DESCRIPTION:JOIN US – THURSDAY – June 5 – 7pm\nYoung Musicians Showcase\nCoco Jade & Friends \nHosted by:  Julie Berghofer \nCoco Jade & Friends are just that! Bandmates are friends and classmates studying jazz at the Garn Family Jazz Studies Program at Orange County School of the Arts (OCSA)\, in Santa Ana. Led by Coco Benedetti\, her band\, along with other OCSA cohorts\, will soon deliver a three-night performance as part of the Subaru Newport Beach Jazz Festival. The Hyatt Regency hotel\, in Newport Beach\, has staged the Newport Beach Jazz Festival (May 30 – June 1) on its property for 30 years. Coco\, and members of her band\, along with other school cohorts will perform in the hotel for guests and Festival patrons each night of the Festival. Bandmates are one of three teen jazz bands which gig at the hotel regularly\, on Friday nights\, over the past six months. \nCoco Jade & Friends is a vocals-led band\, with Coco as singer and pianist\, and including; Shannon Imaoka\, on piano\, Emmet Althoen on bass and piano\, and Kai Orozco on drums. The band keeps their sets dynamic with interpretations of jazz standards\, impressive solos\, and with Emmet and Coco pairing piano and vocals as a duo. DESCRIPTION:The Soundscape Mini Jazz Orchestra\, led by Jose Robles is an Orange County based collective of musicians that all met at Saddleback College. They specialize in various different genres that fall under jazz umbrella including\, but not limited to swing\, samba\, and funk.  This is an outstanding group of young musicians that you will want to see and hear! \nThe orchestra is normally a 10 piece with 6 horns and a rhythm section. DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles Jazz Society Presents:\nYOUNG MUSICIANS SHOWCASE – \nfeaturing:\nSAOIRSE SIPES & THE FUSION FIVE\nSaoirse Sipes\, drums \nMichael Islas – Bass \nJosh Wong – Piano \nJack Lieberman – Saxophone \nLuciano Soriano – Trombone and Bandleader \nJulie Berghofer – Host \n  \nSaoirse Sipes is a 17 year old up-and-coming jazz drummer from Thousand Oaks\, California. He is a junior at Thousand Oaks High School\, and additionally studies at the Colburn School where he plays in their 2 top jazz ensembles: the award-winning Thursday Night Band and the Big Band. Saoirse is a 2024 and 2025 YoungArts winner in Jazz\, as well as a 2024 semifinalist in the Music Center’s Spotlight Competition. In 2024\, he was selected as an alternate for the prestigious Vail Jazz Workshop as well as Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz Orchestra. He also earned a chair in the 2024 CA All-State HS Jazz Band as well as the 2024 SCSBOA Jazz All-Stars \n  \nHe currently studies drums under Charles Ruggiero and Roy McCurdy\, and is/has been mentored by a wide variety of jazz luminaries\, from Obed Calvaire to Terell Stafford. \n  \nThe Fusion Five\, led by award-winning trombonist\, LAJS alumni\, and current Juilliard student Luciano Soriano\, will be performing a set of original music written by the band members. They recently recorded an album in August that is set to release in the new year. \n___________________________________ \n  \nThanks to a grant from the ADLER DEUTSCH FOUNDATION and HERB ALPERT FOUNDATION\, the performance is FREE to watch VIRTUALLY. There is no cost to view this live performance but registration is required to obtain your ZOOM log-in information – however – your donations are vital to our ability to continue these broadcasts and whatever you can give would be totally appreciated. \n  \nOnce you register\, you will be sent information as to how to access this fabulous program.
