2014 Jazz Tribute Awards Concert
The annual Los Angeles Jazz Society’s Jazz Tribute Awards attracts jazz musicians and jazz lovers from all over Southern California in a celebration of jazz and the talented people who have made this extraordinary music their life’s passion. With amazing performances, there is nothing like it in Los Angeles…. all to raise funds for our important jazz education programs, benefiting thousands of young people in the LAUSD public schools.
This year, we are excited to present our Jazz Tribute Awards Concert on Sunday, October 12th at the Alex Theatre in Glendale as a tribute to the Music of Shelly Manne, honoring the amazing Flip Manne, President of the LA Jazz Society, with our Jazz Tribute Award.
Our very special concert will feature the Shelly Manne All Star Big Band conducted by John Clayton with featured performances by several past jazz vocalist honorees, our special tribute to Flip Manne, and exciting drum performances by special guests. By presenting this year’s event as a concert, we hope to open up the theatre to hundreds of jazz lovers and especially to students who might otherwise not have the opportunity to experience such an event. We will be announcing our line-up shortly.
We are all aware that with the dramatic budget cutbacks over the past few years, many of the music and arts programs in the schools have been eliminated. This annual Tribute is the Society’s primary fundraiser and we invite you to help us continue our highly acclaimed programs (Jazz in Schools, Bill Green Mentorship Program, Jazz Coolcats, New Note) by becoming a Sponsor of this year’s Jazz Tribute… or purchase your tickets early to get the best seats.
