Saoirse Sipes is a 17 year old up-and-coming jazz drummer from Thousand Oaks, California. He is a junior at Thousand Oaks High School, and additionally studies at the Colburn School where he plays in their 2 top jazz ensembles: the award-winning Thursday Night Band and the Big Band. Saoirse is a 2024 and 2025 YoungArts winner in Jazz, as well as a 2024 semifinalist in the Music Center’s Spotlight Competition. In 2024, he was selected as an alternate for the prestigious Vail Jazz Workshop as well as Carnegie Hall’s NYO Jazz Orchestra. He also earned a chair in the 2024 CA All-State HS Jazz Band as well as the 2024 SCSBOA Jazz All-Stars
He currently studies drums under Charles Ruggiero and Roy McCurdy, and is/has been mentored by a wide variety of jazz luminaries, from Obed Calvaire to Terell Stafford.
The Fusion Five, led by award-winning trombonist, LAJS alumni, and current Juilliard student Luciano Soriano, will be performing a set of original music written by the band members. They recently recorded an album in August that is set to release in the new year.
